Karin-Flurer Brünger: “Clay, Paper and Fire”

A Workshop on experimental firing, paper kilns and kiln sculptures

Experimental kilns can be made easily and quickly – one for each participant or a common large kiln - everything is possible!

From a simple cone to an object of art - with almost no costs, but a lot of fun and sensuality, you can build a kiln made of paper and clay leftovers - and fire it immediately.

Building a paper kiln is an excellent opportunity to offer experiential education to children and teenagers. Within no time the group will be working together!

Larger objects can be fired by wrapping them with a paper kiln. Low temperature wood firing and the possibilities of reduction will be demonstrated. Karin will teach you the ropes!

Karin-Flurer Brünger has been working as a lecturer of ceramics at Landau University for more than 10 years. As a master craftswoman in ceramics, therapist and special educator, she has an experience of many years as a ceramic workshop instructor. She has also built paper kilns with former children soldiers in Congo.

Schedule:

01/09 evening (check-in, getting to know each other, preparing material, introduction…) kiln building and opening 02/09 and 03/09/2010

Location: Bröllin Castle, Germany

Number of participants: 12 to 16

Costs: 80, - EUR regular and 70, - EUR for kalkspatz association members, including materials for building kilns and firewood.

Accommodation is available in Bröllin; the same conditions as during the conference apply.

Meals can be booked in Bröllin, three meals cost 15, - EUR per day. Reservation is made informally with Kalkspatz.

The usual conditions for participation in Kalkspatz seminars apply, i.e. registration will be valid only upon reception of payment.
